Dairy
Producers Celebrate America's Pastime
and America's Dairyland
Byline: Mark Christenson, WMMB
Director and Jefferson, WI dairy producer
Plan
now to attend the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board's Dairy Day at Miller
Park on Labor Day weekend. For the
second consecutive year, WMMB will pair the
rich history of Wisconsin dairy with the favorite
pastime of baseball by teaming up with the
Milwaukee Brewers for a "Dairy
Day " game
day celebration.
On Sunday, September 2, the 42,000 expected fans (a sell-out crowd)
who visit Miller Park will have the opportunity to taste dairy products,
meet and greet Alice in Dairyland and walk away with a dairy-themed
gift.
New this year, half-price tickets will be offered to all active Wisconsin
dairy producers in reserved
sections. Options available include Terrace
Reserved seats for $6.50 each (regularly $13)
and Club Outfield seats for $17.50 each (regularly
$35). All active dairy producers were mailed
a postcard with ordering instructions and a
discount code. If you are an active dairy producer
with an active license number and did not receive
a postcard but would like to order tickets,
contact WMMB at 800-383-9662, ext. 232 or e-mail
producer@wmmb.org.
Order by June 30 for a chance to throw the first pitch.
The first pitch will mark the official kickoff
of dairy day. This year's first pitch will
be especially exciting as it will be thrown
by a Wisconsin dairy producer—possibly
you! Those producers who purchase tickets
by June 30 will be entered to be chosen to
deliver the first pitch. The chosen winner will be
contacted before the game with further details.
Dairy Day will start with what's gearing up to be a mini-festival
outside the gates of the park. Prior to game time, a number of dairy
companies will offer product tasting of their milk and ice cream flavors.
Recipes using real Wisconsin dairy products will also be available.
The fun and education will continue inside. Each person who walks
through the gate will receive a set of three
nesting dolls. The dolls are replicas of three
historic Brewers players—Hank Aaron, Eddie Matthews
and Warren Spahn—and carry the got milk? and
Wisconsin
Cheese logos. These collector's items will
remind people who come of the important
role that dairy plays in Wisconsin.
Please join us for another successful Dairy Day at Miller Park. This
event gives us the opportunity to present our
products, information on dairy's economic value
and the entire industry to thousands of Milwaukee
Brewers fans and state residents.

Mark Christenson represents Dane and Jefferson counties
on the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board. Mark and his wife Dorothy farm
near Lake Mills where Mark is involved in the Jefferson County Dairy
Leaders Board.
